The Thermal System Design Lead Engineer is a technical expert in thermal analysis capabilities of aircraft engine components and systems. This includes the development and validation of secondary flow and heat transfer for the purpose of supporting the design of commercial aircraft engines.
Your specific responsibilities will include:
  • Develop new technologies or enhance current technologies for the purpose of pushing the technology in aircraft engines forward for lower specific fuel consumption, higher thermodynamic efficiencies and increased hardware life
  • Specific components or regions of investigation are: Rotor/Stator Heat Transfer; Rotor Thrust; Secondary Air System; Turbine Flow Path Heat Transfer
  • Plan and execute component and engine test programs and utilize the results to validate engine designs, systems and analytical models
  • Work with a variety of engineering organizations and contribute to the development of the engine systems and designs
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project and participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the area of aero engine or industrial gas turbine heat transfer or secondary flow
  • Experience with analytical software such as CFX, FLUENT, STAR-CD, ANSYS, Matlab, etc.
  • Experience with 1-D flow network codes
  • Experience in integrating thermal system design in the context of the overall propulsion system, with sound understanding of how component design impact the larger engine design
  • Proven ability to create and execute strategic vision for product advancement
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate at a variety of levels, from detailed design reviews to high-level leadership reviews
  • Strong connections to relevant professional societies, and recognition through publications and patents
  • Fluency in English
  • Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline
  • Passion for technical excellence and technology advancement
  • Able to self-manage workload across a number of designs
  • Strong focus on identifying and improving processes and tools
  • Self–directed and motivated
